NATRIUM appoints Derek Welch as Senior Advisor

Natrium Capital is delighted to announce that Derek Welch has joined as a Senior Advisor. Derek has particular expertise in the coatings industry working for Akzo Nobel and before that Courtaulds. He masterminded the acquisition by Akzo Nobel of ICI PLC and the sale of Organon Biosciences, and adhesives and starch assets from the ICI portfolio.

Derek Welch was Director of Corporate Strategy at Akzo Nobel and held various roles at Courtaulds, including Company Secretary of a listed subsidiary and business development in emerging markets. He has over 40 years of involvement in the paints and coatings industry, over 10 years in speciality chemicals and some 5 years in pharmaceuticals. Experience includes strategy, M&A (Mergers and Acquisitions) and establishing businesses in emerging markets, including China, many of which were initially joint ventures. Major projects include the refocusing of Akzo Nobel’s chemicals activities, sale of its pharmaceutical business and the acquisition of ICI plc. Current roles include a non-Executive Director of GTS Chemical Holdings plc and a Director of ICI Pension Trustees Ltd. Derek is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries & Administrators.
